I am confused
I am constantly told that the UK government’s Rwanda plan will not act as a deterrent to illegal migrants. But Ireland claims that”fearful” migrants are flocking to Ireland from the U.K. due to the threat of deportation to Rwanda. Which is right? Ireland wants to pass laws to be enable them to retur...

Re: Alcohol
I do when in Spain, because I'm in holiday mode. When its really hot, there's nothing better than a pint of San Miguel in a glass straight out of the freezer, covered in ice, The boss likes Tinto de Verano. In the UK I rarely drink beer, I have the odd pint of Guinness. we mainly drink Rioja, or Ch...

Re: Smacking
My father did smack me a few times. Teachers at school smacked me more frequently.
I did smack my oldest twice before I realised that I was really doing it only as a release of my own frustration and that it was quite ineffective as a behaviour modifier.
I soon found alternative incentives.

Re: Should we
There is no payment to NATO. Members are supposed to spend at least 2% of GDP on defence. Some members do not spend this amount and Trump is right to call them out as they are expecting NATO to bail them out if attacked but will not fund their own defence. Ukraine is not a member of NATO but is a pa...

Re: Gone too far
No doubt in my mind that the right wing of the Israeli government wants to wipe Gaza off the map. Netanyahu is in a weak position and has to, at least, be seen to stick to his stated aim of destroying Hamas won’t be bothered if Gaza is wiped out as a consequence. He just has to make sure he doesn’t ...

Re: Water
Ignoring the error on the exact figures, the fact remains that since privatisation the owners of the water companies have extracted huge sums of money from the business while running up huge debts (that they now expect consumers to bail them out from through further huge price increases or governme...

The figures quoted are those claimed (I have not looked at all the accounts) for all the water companies (not just Thames)since privatisation (1990 to date). Yes, Selly, those figures relate to the 25 or so water suppliers, not just Thames Water who do not carry that debt nor have they paid anythin...
