Made me think, how long since England were last in a World Cup? 15 years?

England last made the World Cup final in 2007 and won the tournament for the only time in their history in 2003. South Africa have won the World Cup twice - their first ever victory was in 1995 against New Zealand, and the last win in 2007 against their current rivals.

I think England already played their final against the All Blacks. It was clear after 5 minutes that they were going to be out-thought and out-fought by the Springboks. A huge missed opportunity after all the work to get to the final as England are clearly the better team. But the better team on the day won. Congratulations to South Africa.

In fairness SA should have lost to Wales if the Welsh had managed to find their A Game which had eluded them for most of the tournament. SA are the luckiest winners ever.

Can’t agree there. You can have luck with decisions, injuries or the run of the ball not with how the opponent plays. It’s a knockout tournament (in the later stages) and you can only play the opposition that turns up on the day. Would you say Liverpool are lucky to be leading in the Premiership because Man City have played poorly in a few games?
The Springboks found a way to beat both Wales and England. If it was decided on potential the All Blacks would have beaten England in the final and we could have dispensed with all the previous games. After all, England were very lucky that the All Black selectors made some odd decisions in their starting line-up!
