Re: Sturgeon
But “Care in the Community” is a legacy that no decent person would want.
People who had been institutionalised for most of their lives left to look after themselves.
Mental health facilities closed down and the prison system left to take up the strain, with inadequate means to deal with the tragedy of people who should never have been imprisoned.
A wicked policy driven by the “Iron Lady”, for me the “Heartless Lady”.

...a chance of a more “ normal “ life or one banged up in a nuthouse?
..have you any idea ,DB of what life is like in a mental institution....I have, and it is terrifying!!....
...I am afraid, from personal experience that some people are not fit to live amongst the community but have to be imprisoned.
...wicked, not decent, ...nah...Humane, ....except to those ignorant of the reality!!

Re: Sturgeon
That’s fine but when people have been institutionalised for many years you just can’t dump them out in the community and expect them to cope. I remember seeing pictures on the news of groups of people, in their 50’s and 60’s, being waltzed around the shops and shown how to use their own money. It was pathetic.
These poor people were cannon fodder, God knows how they suffered.
Sure, change the system but don’t drop the axe on those that are trapped in the existing system.
I sat on a jury where one of these poor sods was wheeled in front of us, a schizophrenic who had spent years in an institution in Kent, chucked out to fend for himself, he thought he could manage without his meds. The consequence of this was he assaulted a woman in a phone box and got a five year prison sentence.
Care in the Community in the way it was introduced, was just evil.

...a woman of principle whose whole life was unblemished by personal scandal.
Yes she took on the miners, those thugs who pelted our police with rocks and stones, and would throw concrete slabs from motorway bridges onto cars passing beneath.
Those same people who turned on each other with such hatred that their animosity will only dissipate after their deaths.
She took them on and won, and in so doing taught them what living in a civilised society was all about!
..She also taught the world that Britain would fight and overcome impossible odds to defend her territory and people’s.
..She was a true British heroine, and all her socialist detractors can throw at her is the tired old soubriquet “milk snatcher”!
...says an awful lot about the latter.....
At this rate you will soon be kissing and making up with the Eagle
That would raise JonCon's expectation that I should do the same with him
but I have to draw the line somewhere
Yes Derek is right---Care in the community is a pass the buck and how much money can we save ---the cost of course is much higher when you analyse the results of shutting down Government institutions
Anyway--as I said Thatcher was right to take on the Unions ---the way she did it was not my preferred choice
She was right to take back the Falklands
and she was right to handbag the EU
and she was an honest and determined politician --I know that is an oxymoron but she was motivated in doing what she thought would make Britain better and for that I applaud her----unfortunately the scale of change was too vast and the time frame was too short
but here is something that I do not agree with but would make people like Mrs Nelson very happy

Yes but Labour still started it, which most people, mainly labour supporters conveniently forget.burrababa wrote: ↑Tue Mar 02, 2021 7:25 pm in 1985 Margaret Thatcher was denied an honorary degree from Oxford University because she took glee in ripping milk away from the mouths of innocent little children.
Yes she always said that she was continuing what Labour started -------not good enough a reason for most people.
As I said, can you think a derogatotory name to rhyme with Wilson. !!

...he can be managed DB, as long as he stays on his “medication” !!
..even in the olden days, every village had its idiot, who were tolerated and provided much amusement for children.....
