I don’t think she was a war criminal but what she did to the mentally ill with her ‘Care in the Community’, a wicked policy that has affected the mentally ill for years past and into the future.

Yes I agree with your choices----would be nice to see the guy with common sense Farage in Government :that:

Maggie was a very complex person and in many ways was ahead of her time in reforming the country ----the Unions which are meant to protect the workers had done so very capably over the years----then decided that they had the power to be the tail that wagged the dog and made demands that were not affordable---very much like Sturgeon brainwashing people to believe that Independence would make them rich when in fact they will all be broke ----except her of course !!!

Reform of the unions good but Thatcher the milk snatcher not good at all especially at a time the UK had a milk mountain/river and there was no need to deprive kids and this would have affected many childrens health and intelligence and was therefore a reprehensible policy

and while I gree that the UK needs some sort of ID card for its people----the introduction of the Poll Tax was not well thought out

A history lesson for you Mr Clements and maybe you can think of something that can rhyme with Wilson

Cut and paste I`m afraid but a little research should do the trick ;)

Up until 1968 free milk was available in all British schools, with every child receiving a third of a pint. At that point the Labour government under Harold Wilson cut the universal allowance for older children. The take-up had dropped to 58% and it wasn’t seen to be good value; £5m a year could be saved. Labour stressed the ever decreasing take-up rates in secondary schools rather than the £5m as their reasoning. This was only opposed in a perfunctory way, and the milk was quietly withdrawn from secondary schools, remaining for over the elevens only in special schools and for the poor. For the next two years, milk was still available to all under-elevens.

In 1970 Edward Heath, the incoming Prime Minister and his Chancellor, Anthony Barber, also wanted cuts in the eduction budget.

They suggested to the Minister for Education, Mrs Thatcher, several unpalatable cuts, including the removal of free school milk entirely. Other options included charges to borrow books from libraries, an increase in the price of school meals, and increased charges for futher education. Mrs T wouldn’t budge on free libraries, but agreed on higher fees for further education and more expensive school meals. She agreed to get rid of the free milk for older primary school children, but thought they should be kept for younger ones.

She also decided that she could raise money by introducing entry charges to museums. In the end she gave the Treasury even more than they asked for, and in 1971 free milk was cut for all over sevens. So the answer is this case is budget cuts.

However it is Thatcher remembered as the milk-snatcher, not Edward Short, Wilson’s minister, and not just because of a convenient rhyme. Labour ran a campaign opposing the Conservative cuts, bringing the issue to the public gaze. To no avail. Mrs Thatcher was not to be swayed from what she thought was right by mere name calling.

Free school milk for the poor was sporadically provided and removed again over the next few decades. Currently, it’s given universally to under-fives in day care.
What goes around comes around.

in 1985 Margaret Thatcher was denied an honorary degree from Oxford University because she took glee in ripping milk away from the mouths of innocent little children.

Yes she always said that she was continuing what Labour started -------not good enough a reason for most people.

Maggie was the best PM since Churchill...

...a woman of principle whose whole life was unblemished by personal scandal.
Yes she took on the miners, those thugs who pelted our police with rocks and stones, and would throw concrete slabs from motorway bridges onto cars passing beneath.
Those same people who turned on each other with such hatred that their animosity will only dissipate after their deaths.
She took them on and won, and in so doing taught them what living in a civilised society was all about!

..She also taught the world that Britain would fight and overcome impossible odds to defend her territory and people’s.
..She was a true British heroine, and all her socialist detractors can throw at her is the tired old soubriquet “milk snatcher”!

...says an awful lot about the latter.....
